Not receiving in your Inbox?

We here at applaud the anti-spam industry's efforts to remove unwanted email from our mailboxes.  However, as you may have discovered, the downside to this trend is that some wanted email publications, such as , end up blocked or moved to a bulk/junk mail folder.

In order to assist our subscribers in continuing to receive in their email Inboxes, we've compiled Safe List instructions from the top ISPs and many popular mail filter programs.  Just choose your ISP or mail filter program below to find the instructions for your situation.

Hotmail / MSN / Windows Live Mail

To ensure messages from specific e-mail addresses are not sent to your Junk E-Mail folder, you can add them to your Safe List.

Windows Live Mail
  1. From your Windows Live Mail Inbox, go to the Options page.
  2. Click Click Allowed and Blocked Senders under Junk e-mail.
  3. Click Allowed Senders.
  4. Type newsletter@, and then click Add to List.
Hotmail/MSN
  1. From your Hotmail Inbox, go to the Options page.
  2. Click Junk E-Mail Protection.
  3. Click Safe List.
  4. Type newsletter@, and then click Add.

Gmail

To make sure Gmail doesn't move email to the Junk folder/label, you can setup a filter that makes sure you get your email.

  1. Follow the Settings link in Gmail.
  2. Go to Filters.
  3. Click Create a new filter.
  4. Type the desired email address under From:
    1. To whitelist an entire domain (all mail from an address ending in "about.com", for example), type the just the domain name or the domain name preceded by '@'. To whitelist "", for instance, type "@" (not including the quotation marks).
  5. Click Next Step ...
    1. You can click Test Search before, of course, to make sure you did not mistype.
  6. Make sure Never send it to Spam is checked.
  7. Click Create Filter.

Yahoo! Mail
  
  1. Follow the Mail Options link from the Yahoo! Mail navigation bar.
  2. Select Filters.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Give the filter an appropriate name under Filter Name.
  5. In the From header:  line choose "contains", then type:  newsletter@.
  6. In the Move the message to:  field, choose "Inbox" or any other folder you want to receive your newsletter in.
  7. Click Add Filter.

If you find that newsletter is already in your Bulk Mail folder, simply open the newsletter and click on the Not Spam button at the top to move it to your Inbox.

  1. Go to keyword: Mail Controls
  2. Select the screen name we're sending  to. 
  3. Click Customize Mail Controls For This Screen Name. 

AOL Version 9.0

  1. Open  e-mail. 
  2. Click the Add Address button (on the right) to add to your "People I Know" list or address book.

CleanMyMailbox: 

If  is filtered, from the spambox, click on the white "W" icon on the left column of the mailing. 
When the pop-up window comes up, simply click the Add to Whitelist button. 

Alternative whitelisting methods: 

  1. Click on the Whitelist button. 
  2. Add: newsletter@ to the bottom of your existing list. 
  3. Click the Submit List button. 

OR....

  1. Click the Subject Whitelist button. 
  2. Add: [ ] to the bottom of the list on a line by itself. 
  3. Click the Submit List button.

Cloudmark SpamNet: 

  1. Select Cloudmark | Options ... from the Cloudmark SpamNet toolbar in Outlook. 
  2. Click Advanced
  3. Go to the Whitelist tab. 
  4. Click the Add button. 
  5. Type: newsletter@
  6. Click OK
  7. Click OK
  8. Click Yes
  9. Click OK.

Mailblocks: 

  1. Click the Addresses tab. 
  2. Click New
  3. Type: newsletter@ 
  4. Make sure 'Accept Mail From This Address' is selected under Receiving Options.
  5. Uncheck 'Display in People Picker' under Other options. 
  6. Click Submit. 
  7. Click OK.

  1. Click Friends from the toolbar. 
  2. Click Add. 
  3. Type: newsletter@
  4. Click OK.

  1. Click Tools, then Blacklist & Friends
  2. Click Add... on the right, the Friends list side. 
  3. Make sure Plain email address is selected. 
  4. Type: newsletter@ 
  5. Click OK. 
  6. Click OK.

  1. Click Friends from the sidebar. 
  2. Click Add. 
  3. Type: newsletter@
  4. Click OK.

Oddpost: 

  1. Check your 'Probably Spam' folder. 
  2. If you see that was incorrectly filtered out, select it, and click the 'Move to Inbox and Mark as Not Spam' button.

SpamAssassin: 

Add the following entry to your user_prefs file, which is found in the spamassassin subdirectory on your web/mail server: 
whitelist_from newsletter@

Save the user_prefs file or move the updated copy to your .spamassassin subdirectory. 
If you have no user_prefs file in this subdirectory, create one:

  1. Click the Configure button. 
  2. Go to the Known Senders tab. 
  3. Click Add under 'Known Good Senders and Recipients'
  4. Type: newsletter@
  5. Click OK
  6. Click OK.

  1. Click Filters from the sidebar. 
  2. Click the Approved Senders tab. 
  3. Click Add Filter
  4. Type: newsletter@ under Address. 
  5. Choose 'Full Email Address' under Address Type. 
  6. Select Email Domain
  7. Click OK.

  1. Select Spam Inspector, then 'Manage Friends List' from either the Spam Inspector toolbar or from the Outlook menu.
  2. Make sure Email is selected under 'Add a New Friend'
  3. Type: newsletter@
  4. Click the ">>" button. 
  5. Click Close.

  1. Follow the Trusted link under > Authentication Lists.
  2. Enter the email address: newsletter@
  3. Click Add.

  1. Click on the SpamPal system tray icon with the right mouse button.

  2. Go to the Friends category. 
  3. Make sure Active is checked. 
  4. Type: newsletter@ on a line by itself in the entry field.
